DESIGN OF A DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERTER INTEGRATED IN CMOS TECHNOLOGY

Motivation

At the present time the wireless systems of transmission-reception offer many services that involve digital processing of the signals. These systems count on a digital stage (where the processing is made), a stage of RF transmission and a stage of reception RF. In these systems exists the necessity to implement a device DAC, that allows the conversion of the signals given by the stage of digital processing to analogical signals that can be transmitted in wireless form to other stations.

Group CEMOS of Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineerings School has raised the design and implementation of transceiver wireless integrated in technology CMOS. This project will show the viability to design an integrated DAC, that can be used within the stage of transmission of this system, fulfilling the minimum specifications of the Bluetooth standard.

This project will allow to show the community of the Industrial University of Santander, that the design of integrated circuits at level of predegree and postdegree is an area of accessible study. Modifying, partly, the thought that is had of this field in Colombia, by the lack of tools and knowledge for the development of integrated systems. The previous will impel the generation of a critical mass within the university, like a way to give a new approach to the of Electronic Engineering School.

Objectives

  • To design an integrated, adaptable digitalis-analogical converter to a system of transmission of radio frequencies in technology CMOS, low dissipation of power and reduced area.
  • To design a DAC with the following requirements: bandwidth of conversion greater of 100MHz, 50 SFDR superior to dB, error DNL smaller of 1 LSB and a error INL smaller of 0.5 LSB.
  • To elaborate the Layout of the digitalis-analogical converter, looking for that the parameters of the circuit are little sensible to the variations of the process of fabrication of integrated circuits.
  • To make the simulation and characterization of the design, later to the elaboration of the Layout, to verify the different specifications, as well as the robustness the system.
